MyPoints.com: The Smartest Move I Ever Made

Approximately a decade ago, I joined a rewards-style website called MyPoints. Quite skeptical, but lured in by shiny promises of 100% free giftcards to my favorite stores and restaurants, I began a journey that has done nothing short of increase that little virtue called patience.

I am happy to announce that in 10 years (mind you, I sometimes experience 6 months to 1 year bouts of laziness), I have successfully racked in three Burger King $5 certificates, one $25 Blockbuster giftcard, one $50 Gap giftcard, one $25 Wal-mart giftcard, and the list goes on. I currently have 12,077 points, which is enough to grant me a $100 giftcard to merchants such as Express, Banana Republic, Williams Sonoma, Finish Line, L.L. Bean, Macy's, Marriott, Nine West...etc, etc, etc.

If you do ANY amount of online shopping, this is worth looking into. Many merchants offer 2-5 points per dollar on purchases if you follow their link on MyPoints rather than going directly to the merchant website.

An easy way to earn points without spending a single cent is to simply check your email. MyPoints will send you a couple of emails each day, and all you have to do is click the button at the bottom of the email that says "Get Points." You'll automatically earn 5 points (sometimes 10) just by doing this simple task. Your browser will follow the link, and you then have the opportunity to accept the offer or simply exit the window and resume checking your email.

Another free way to earn points is to complete surveys and questionnaires. These typically reward you with 50 points each.

AND for you couponing super shoppers, there are tons of printable coupons for everything from orange juice to shaving cream. Points are awarded upon redemption.

Really, it's a win-win situation. Now, if I could only make up my mind between free clothes or free dining, I'll be set to receive my $100 giftcard. Life is sooo rough.

Happy earning!
